This week’s guest post was submitted by an inspired Stylish Patina reader, Ann Hightower.
Ann was inspired to transform her own furniture by browsing the through our shop, Stylish Patina – located at 410 S Maple Ave in Falls Church. We love hearing about customers that come into our shop, see our fabulously re-imagined furniture and decide to transform their own pieces. Ann decided that she wanted to use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint to refresh and update her china cabinet.
Ann said, “I was so tired of my old cherry china cabinet. After seeing some inspirations in your shop, I bought a few cans of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and went to town!”. Love her enthusiasm!
Here is a before picture of Ann’s china cabinet.
As you can see, her china cabinet was a beautiful piece with lots of great detail, but looking a little dated. Ann decided to use Aubusson Blue and Old White to give her china cabinet a new look.
Since Chalk Paint requires no sanding or priming, all that Ann had to do to prep her piece was make sure that it was clean and free of dust. Chalk Paint adheres to almost any surface indoors and outside, making it super easy to use.
The only (rare) times you may need to do some light sanding is to remove loose paint, rust or other surface debris – or if the surface is very glossy (this includes melamine and laminates).
Here is an after picture of Ann’s updated china cabinet.
We love the Old White on the inside of the shelving – it makes her piece look light and really shows off her china.
