Before & After: Aubusson Bookshelf

November 28, 2017 Leave a Comment

This week’s Before & After comes from DIY fanatic, Teri. Teri’s love for all kinds of art projects inspired her to try out the Annie Sloan product line. Check out the results of her first piece!

Teri started with this bookshelf, which she says was “boring and didn’t really wow [her].” She found that although it was a cute piece, it kept getting lost in the background.

Teri painted the piece in Aubusson blue and sealed it with a clear wax. This gorgeous teal color will ensure this piece doesn’t get lost in the background. She loves the results and so do we. The best part is, the color perfectly matches a pair of lamps she had in the room.

Don’t forget to send us your Before & Afters for a chance to be featured on the blog. We love seeing the work of our customers and are constantly being inspired by their creativity.

 Happy Painting!

Color Recipe of the Week – Peacock

October 1, 2017 Leave a Comment

This week’s color recipe was inspired by the gorgeous Peacock Dresser  for sale at our Falls Church City store. So many of our customers have come in wanting to know which chalk paint color it is—and we don’t blame them! The piece was actually custom sprayed for us as part of our Vintage Designer Collection…BUT due to popular demand we color matched it for you! This Peacock color is almost an exact match and is equal parts Amsterdam Green and Aubusson Blue. Pop into the store today or buy your paint and supplies here.

Do you have any favorite color mixes? Or are you looking for a specific color that you can’t seem to get right? Comment below and let us help you!

Don’t forget to send us your favorite Before & Afters, for a chance to be featured on the blog! Check back in next week for another color recipe!

Happy Painting!

Mixing Color with Chalk Paint®

April 3, 2013 4 Comments

as workbookJust a quick blog post from here at the Annie Sloan Unfolded conference.  If you follow the blog and visit the shop you know that I mix chalk paint colors often to make the perfect color that I love.  When I get back in town I am going to offer a class on color mixing using our Annie Sloan Workbook.

In the class we will talk about where the chalk paint colors fall on a traditional color chart and guidelines in mixing and matching them.  I am really excited about this new workshop and hope to offer it in May, stay tuned and email me if you are interested in attending – kelly@stylishpatina.com.

I wanted to share one of my favorite new color mixes.  I’ve been playing with Aubusson and Florence a lot lately and I have come up with a darker version 3 parts aubusson to one part florence and then a lighter version which is 2 part florence 1 part aubusson.

Colorful Monday – Country Grey

January 14, 2013 1 Comment

When my customers ask me about neutrals I lean towards the nontraditional ones in the Chalk Paint™ line.  I prefer Country Grey and Old Ochre to Old White and Cream.  My favorite color combo is Aubusson Blue & Country Grey.

Today I am sharing a bit of informations straight from the source Annie Sloan!  You can find the type of detailed information below about each color on her website.  She also writes a blog solely on color you must visit!

Adorable side tables

March 29, 2012 Leave a Comment

So I used be obsessed with chairs now I think it’s end tables, especially ones with lots of curves!  I of course did not take before pictures because I’m a dork but here are the afters.  I used Aubusson blue {my fav} and french linen {my new fav}.  I used dark wax on both projects.  I hope you like them!

Loving Country Grey

March 10, 2012 1 Comment

So I think my favorite new neutral is Country Grey by Annie Sloan {and I am loving Coco too}.  Most folks stick with Old White, Pure White but I really love some of the other like country grey, old ochre and versaille.  They have a beautiful depth to the colors, experiment a little and try some new colors on for size!

I put an adorable little dresser in Falls Church and just love how it turned out in country grey so go check it out and see what the color looks like live and in person!  There is a little night stand too that has country on top and aubusson on the base ..so cute as a set in a bedroom.

A Lil’ hint of Fall & Preview

September 30, 2011 4 Comments

I LOVE this time of year.  Yesterday I was inspired and bought a few things to decorate the house.  I thought I’d snap a couple pictures while I was moving things around.  Hope you enjoy them!

This weekend I am off to buy a fabulous vintage bakery cart and the junk yard…not for me for my husband, don’t ask!

A lil' pumpkin love
Ira loves fall too
Yes that is the rolling bin those mums are in!

And here is the little preview of my latest project…this should be in Stifel & Capra this weekend in Falls Church , Va.
