Leopard Armoire, Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan

February 13, 2019 Leave a Comment

Check out this AMAZINGLY create armoire transformation. Annie’s Painters-in-Residence Shed Eleven, used layers of paint and candle wax as a resist to create texture on this piece. They were inspired by batik printmaking. We absolutely love this print design on this cabinet. The first step was to apply Chalk Paint® Graphite before applying the melted candle wax in the outline of the leopard spots, to the areas where they wanted to keep the Graphite.

After she applied a coat of Chalk Paint® in Aries, Scandinavian Pink, and melted candle wax. Once they applied the coats of paints they used a hair drier to soften the wax, then lifted it off using a palette knife. Each layer of paint showed off a different paint color! The piece was sealed in Clear Wax to make sure the design and the paint were durable and would not chip.  See the full tutorial here!

We cannot resist but to show off these other beautiful pieces of furniture painted in Scandinavian Pink Chalk Paint that we found on Pinterest. For more DIY + Painted Furniture inspiration check out our Boards on Pinterest! In the meantime here are a few of our fav’s done in Scan Pink.

Meet Amsterdam Green, Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan

February 11, 2019 Leave a Comment

Meet Amsterdam Green, Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan this strong, deep green takes inspiration from the painted shutters and doors of Amsterdam. It works particularly well with whites and creams and botanical imagery and plants, as well as looking brilliant with earthy yellows and reds – try teaming it with Primer Red, Arles and Old Ochre. It also makes a great backdrop to cool blues, such as Provence, Giverny and the purple tones of Emile.

This beautiful vintage dresser by Annie Sloan can be viewed on her inspiration page.  We love how it’s getting us excited about spring.  We love the pattern of the flowers and leaves as the backdrop. One of our favorite themes is botanical imagery.

Amsterdam Green is a strong, deep green inspired by the shutters and doors found in The Netherlands. Here it is paired with botanical imagery – the perfect green to bring out the colors of the flowers and plants around it.

Check out these jaw-dropping projects using Amsterdam Green I have an entire PIN BOARD dedicated to this color if you want to check it out. Here are a few of my favorites below.  Are you feeling inspired yet?

Don’t forget how easy Chalk Paint by Annie Sloan is to use, NO PREP NO PRIMING needed.  Just pop the top and go!  Check out the Annie Sloan YouTube page for some video with Annie herself.

Kitchen Cabinet Refresh with Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan

February 8, 2019 1 Comment

This weeks before and after comes to us from Avery Michaels from Holland Avenue. Avery has decided to paint her kitchen cabinets two years ago with  Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan. Her kitchen has been featured by Apartment Therapy, Country Living, The Today Show, Better Home’s & Gardens, The Colorist, Buzzfeed, Delish, and Popsugar. This has led Avery to be chosen as a 2018 Better Homes & Garden Stylemaker!

Avery’s DIY final project was amazing! She has recently done a blog post on how her Chalk Painted cabinets have been holding up over the last few years!  This is a common question we get “How durable is chalk paint for kitchen cabinets? The short answer …VERY DURABLE!   Be sure to hop over to Avery’s blog and check out the full recap here and the initial post here.

The colors that Avery used in her kitchen refresh are  Chalk Paint in Pure White on top and then she used 2 coats of Chalk Paint in Duck Egg on the bottom. The Pure White instantly adds a bright and open vibe. After painting the cabinets, she sealed them with Annie Sloan Clear Wax. This is the perfect finish for any DIY paint project! It’s a two in one, adds durability and makes the paint finish velvety smooth.

Check out the BEFORE picture!  It’s amazing what a few coats of paint can do for a kitchen and a little good ol’ fashioned muscle!  Instead of gutting your kitchen and spending thousands of dollars consider investing in a few cans of paint and wax if your budget isn’t ready for the “gut job”.  For those of you SELLING a home with an out of date kitchen…paint those cabinets before putting your house on the market!

AFTER PICTURES

Don’t forget how easy Chalk Paint by Annie Sloan is to use, NO PREP NO PRIMING needed.  Just pop the top and go!  Check out the Annie Sloan YouTube page for some video with Annie herself or email/come into the shop and we can walk you through the process!

Our July #SPPaintPro

August 12, 2018 Leave a Comment

We got so many incredible submissions to our July Giveaway and choosing a winner was far from easy! But, we ended up choosing this sweet little bookshelf painted by Kate Dreyer of Kate Decorates. We constantly tell our first-time Chalk Paint® buyers that is really is as easy as we say it is! Chalk Paint® sticks to just about everything, from wood to metal to glass, which is why the possibilities are endless!

Kate transformed these IKEA bookshelves with the help of a couple coats of Antibes Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan. We love this bold hue and love the pop of color it can bring to any space.

Are you thinking about painting your IKEA furniture? If you plan to use Chalk Paint (which you should, save yourself a headache!) make sure you give it a good clean first (we like using a little bit of dawn dish soap and water) and wiping it down after with a lightly dampened towel  first.  The packing materials IKEA furniture comes in can sometimes leave behind a little oily residue that can make it hard for the paint to adhere, resulting in cracking. So don’t forget to prep your piece! Waxing it once you’ve finished painting will ensure the paint will last.

Congratulations to Katie for an adorable piece and for being named our July #SPPaintPro. Don’t forget to send us your transformations using our hashtag for a chance to win every month!

Meet Trophy!

April 22, 2018 Leave a Comment

Meet Trophy, another gorgeous milk paint color from Miss Mustard Seed! We LOVE this color and we love how it looks on this gorgeous dresser painted by Stacey of @blessed_nester.We are such huge fans of light distressed looks like this piece features. It’s such a great way to bring out details on your pieces, add interest to a simply piece, or even to blend in some of the imperfections on your piece that come with working on vintage pieces. These “imperfections” by the way are what make your piece one of a kind and tell the story…embrace them!
