So….on valentines day in true form Vette & I were meeting up in Bubba {our big van} to scout items for the barn…on my seat when I got in car was a red envelope with a hershey kiss. I knew she was going to do this! She is way better at remembering the small stuff {part of what makes our friendship & partnership work so well!}.
I opened the card and this is what it was {see below}….the inside said “to heck with chocolates & flowers”. We had a great laugh over this card….building and scaling a multi channel business is really hard work, long hours and just plain exhausting…some times a girl just needs a beer {or glass of wine}.
Ahhh deep breath I am getting caught up on some of my larger projects for the barn sale. So I think I can now add pictures…we will see! I found this great vintage buffet at a thrift store over the holidays and could not pass it up even though it is big. Really it’s just long! 66″ long, 21″ deep, 32″ tall.
Please don’t look at the junk in the driveway you can see in my picture! I love my little house but I have to say this business venture does test the limits when trying to find staging areas for pictures {with decent light} and warm locations to paint/refresh in:-).
Enjoy!
Sorry since it’s been so long since I did a post we are still recovering from the big push to open the barn while we play catch up to make sure the D.C. shop (FOUNDRY) and the our dealer spot at Stifel & Capra is set for Black Friday. Both locations will be backed with new goodies for your shopping pleasure!
Today I have a funny story and pictures to share of one of the many hilarious adventures Yvette (or Vettie as I call her, her brother nick name for her that I have adopted…it’s a lot easier to yell across an auction house that Yvette:-). So on one of our shopping trips before the grand opening of the barn we hit a antique mall. Vettie headed to the bathroom and 2 seconds later she is yelling for me….i was totally caught of guard and thought she was sick or something so I go running into the bathroom and there it was……
A fully “staged” bathroom….here are the pictures to prove it! They are taken with my phone so excuse the bad pics:-)
Okay I’m off to tag and get things ready to decorate Falls Church tomorrow while Yvette is downtown working on the shop. Hope to see you Friday!
As I mentioned in my post yesterday I am trying to paint something in every color of Annie Sloan Chalk paint so folks can see what it like and I can see how it looks live and in person!
I did this little farm chair in Emile the other night, it reminds me of a deeper shade of Henrietta with a bit more purple to it? It is lovely! What do you think?
Happy belated Halloween! I have to say my hubby and I were hauling furniture to a client tonight (Halloween) and he was so sad that we missed some of our cute little trick or treaters:-( We got home to see the tail end of them and Bailey our very mischievous dog decided that she too wanted to go trick or treating so she snuck out the front door the first time we had kids and spent the evening roaming the neighborhood hoping that someone was giving out dog bones! No luck for her but she did have a grand time running around with the kids.
So this week has been super busy with us signing the lease on the stylish patina barn in Frederick MD and planning for our 1st tag sale out there on November 18-20 from 10-5pm. We have been talking to a few other dealers with amazing stuff to see if they might join us and help create an wonderful and unique experience for our customers. Stay tunes for more news!
I have been playing with a few colors I have not painted with much and wanted to revel this little vignette. The chairs are done in french linen (quickly becoming one of my all time favorite colors) they are distressed and then applied clear wax. The table is 3 coats of Arles. It’s a great rich yellow color but it does take a few extra coats when applied to dark wood. This little setting might be coming with me on Thursday night to the MONA (mothers of North Arlington) event I am attending with my dear friend Jen Burns from Jennifer Burns Photography. If you are there swing by and say hi!
One of my wonderful customer Diane shared with me pictures of her Stylish Patina purchases in her home. I asked if I could share them and she said yes! If you have bought a piece from me or had me refresh an items for you and would like to share how it looks in your home or shop email me! kelly@stylishpatina.com.
The other weekend Yvette and I were strolling through the U & 14th Street area of DC with our hubbies checking out the competition. I swear if we had a camera following us it would have been great reality TV between Yvette & I digging for deals and trying to find out the scoop about all the businesses and then our husbands non stop discussion around when then get to buy motorcycles and a Land Cruiser (seriously now boys…NEVER!).
Yvette’s husband and I share a major addiction to awesome coffee. My hubby loves coffee too but he isn’t as obsessed as Mike and I are….and Yvette doesn’t even drink coffee (seriously I should be concerned!). We all share a conviction about living a “greener” life..you know the basics, recycle, repurpose, watch you water and electricity consumption..Mike however is “green guy” he even purchased a “green” car!
During our little adventure downtown Mike took me to this “green” coffee shop that had the most AMAZING coffee and best of all they make this pretty flower with the foam…seriously who could ask for more? I should give them props on my blog but I can’t remember the name of shop! I’ll find out next time in the area…promise!
Paige from North Arlington bought this cool old vanity from us about a month ago and when I dropped it off in Ira she was talking about her ideas for how she was going to refresh it. They sounded amazing so I asked her if she would send me some “after pics” to share on the blog with all of you. I shared with me what she used for this refresh:
PAIGE : I used 2-3 coats Behr paint/primer in Edgy Red and a zillion coats (okay, maybe 3) of Minwax water-based Polycrylic protective finish. While I probably only coated the entire thing 2-3 times with the top coat, I gave the top counter area a few extra coats because I wanted it to be really glossy and easy to clean my makeup spills off of.

The pics just came in, thanks for sharing Paige! If anyone else either buys a piece of “raw” furniture from us and refreshes it or buys some chalk paint from us and does a piece we’d LOVE to share it with our followers!
Here is Paige’s SASSY new red vanity!
I just re worked the Falls Church shop for the weekend customers! We have a completely new shop so swing by and check it out. here are a few pictures of the goods!
I have been on an organization kick lately and wanted to share a couple ideas for repurposing items for storage. I love vintage soda pop carriers. I found two that didn’t have the dividers and thought they made great holders for books/cleaning supplies, toys, even bath supplies. These are in the Falls Church shop now.
My dear friend Jen who you may also know from her photography business, www.jenniferburnsphotography.com, was looking for a 1st desk for her young daughter. She fell in love with this vintage desk. (And no that is NOT my Range Rover in the back round I wish!)
So she bought the desk and then I painted it with Annie Sloan Pure White and distressed it…then applied clear wax. Here is the final product. We will share some additional pictures of the desk “in use” once it is all set up in her room. I love being apart of such cool events in peoples lives such as purchasing your daughters 1st school desk, nursery room set up, etc. Just love it!
FYI — I am considering doing a furniture painting Basics class at the end of October in the DC Metro area. Email me if you are interested so I can see what the interest level is … kelly@stylishpatina.com. I’ll do a post just on this topic in the couple days.
