I just loaded in some high quality “in the raw” furniture. Basically really great solid wood pieces that are great as is or would look fabulous painted! If you are in need of dressers and dining tables come and visit the shop this weekend!
Vintage Modern Home
Yesterday was pretty exciting they gutted most of the basement.
After work hubby and I headed to Home Depot to pick out goodies for the bathroom in the basement. I of course wanted to do some really pretty stone tile, etc. and he kept saying “it’s the basement you can do that when we redo our bathroom”…bummer but he is right. I picked out some less expensive finishes but think it’s going to look great. I’ll do a bathroom on a budget post when it’s all done and break down the pricing.
One thing my hubby is really great about is helping people. Last night we were at HD and the guys needed to break down this mega big pallet of heavy stuff to get to our tiles and good old james as usually was right in there helping 🙂
And finally this is how I started my day today…7am construction crew and a big cup of coffee w/rai at my feet in the office:-) Laura just came over to start working and I’m still in my PJ’s..gotta run and put on some clothes!
I’m beat, today has been a super long day filled with shopping, hauling, setting, etc. but I wanted to just give a shout out to my fabulous mom. She just got back from vacation and has already spent 2 days “working” with me. I’m not sure you can call it work when she doesn’t get paid and my idea of feeding her is an ice tea from Lucketts fridge and some peanut M&M’s. I started hauling at about 8am this morning, picked up mom at 9:30am and we got home about 8pm……long day. Mom you are such a trooper I couldn’t do it without you! Thank you!!!
On to First Friday news….tomorrow is First Friday in Falls Church so Stifel & Capra will be open until 8pm! Come have a glass of wine and shop. I am out of clear wax at the shop {the shipment is late due to an evacuation in New Orleans} but hopefully I’ll get some in tomorrow at some point if not it will be stocked asap {sorry}.
Also other big news Stifel & Capra is now open until 6pm Monday – Saturday! Some pics of the treasures in the downstairs area of the shop can be found on Facebook but here is a look.
Welcome to RePurpose Wednesday.
Todays topic is vintage maps! I love using maps as a way to fill up a large wall that needs a bit of interest, especially in a kids room, play room or office. I have a few vintage school maps {the pull down kind} that were salvaged out of a D.C. school and they are in mint condition {soon to arrive at the FC Shop}. I imagine them being used in a boys room to add a pop of color. I also love seeing maps used as wallpaper or in fun decoupage projects. Let the inspiration begin……
**NOTE these pictures are not mine I am lovingly borrowing them from the internet:-)
Many of these images have been placed on my Pinterest page under RePurposing Ideas – Maps
I adore finding new ways to repurpose vintage items for modern day living so I decided to have the Wednesday post be just about cool new things I have come across to give provide a little repurposing inspiration!
I love repurposing vintage books for decoration and have done this for years. The NYTimes even wrote an article on how books are being used for decoration. BUT I came across this idea on Facebook this week where you can make bookmarks out of vintage book spines and just thought it was wonderful!
Then I came across this cool online shop called Books by the Foot where you can buy books by the color! So all you edgy interior designers out there bookmark this website! I of course liked the green books.
More inspirational pics for you to look at….
I was getting a bit experimental with my colors but couldn’t help it with these fun sewing boxes! I have been using them around the house to hold everything…mail, makeup in the bathroom, silverware when we eat outside, and so much more! You will find these little babies in Falls Church usually holding cards 🙂
Colors from top to bottom: Chalk Paint™ decorative paint in — Arles, Antibes, Florence and SP Custom color mix.
I bough a ton of these amazing vintage French skeleton keys but when they got here {from France!} they had tons of rust. So of course I googled “removing rust from keys” and it told me to get coke, brand name, and put the keys in it. So I did this and yes, it removed some of the rust. I didn’t want them perfect just a bit cleaned up.
So now my 2nd question is after reading this blog post are you ever going to drink Coke again? I hope not! I don’t care for soda {I love coffee} but my hubby does…he knew this little trick and of course I said to hi…”you knew this and still drink soda!” Crazy!
I am gradually bringing in these awesome keys to the shop in Falls Church and out the barn so come and see us. They are awesome as a home decor item but also on a necklace free form…love them!
I have been wanting pillows in the shop forever and they have finally arrived! My friend Ashley made them for us and they turned out awesome! Yvette had some amazing fabric and I had some cool vintage burlap sacs and flour bags. These came out fabulously! Check them out!
Ashley does do customer orders for pillows, cushions and draperies so if you are in need of these services email me, kelly@StylishPatina.com, and I can put you in touch with her!
Aren’t the pillows yummy!!!
