Best Neutral Wall Colors

August 9, 2019 Leave a Comment

Are you looking for the best NEUTRAL wall paint colors that aren’t white? I’m giving you my vote here today!  Wall colors are tricky sometimes… do you go white, cream, grey, greige, or a statement color? There are far too many options!  Most of my clients that hire me just to help with paint color for the house are overwhelmed with options and I can’t blame them….sometimes I get overwhelmed too!

You want to make the right decision and every time you look at Pinterest or Instagram a new color is “trending” ….. well here are a few of my “go to colors”. I have a board dedicated to wall colors on Pinterest here that I am always adding too if you want to check that out too. Okay so here are a few of my current fav’s….

AGREEABLE GREY SW

REPOSE GRAY + MINDFUL GRAY SW

I love this Cheat Sheet that Kylie M. Interiors put together too! Check out her blog!

I am trying to go with grays that don’t have too much blue in them, it’s hard to find but I think these three colors fit the bill!  One other all time fav is Behr (Home Depot) Silver Tradition.  I have used it MANY times. it has a very light hint of blue grey but it’s super soft.

And the other color that has gotten a lot of traction over the years is BM Grey Owl.  I used it in my home and love it but I would say it can lean towards blue and looks a bit different in each room.  I love this visual image on the wall from Val a blogger Lovely Lucky Life!

I hope some of this info is useful for you!  Wall color can be hard based on light and what else is going on in the room.  I’m always happy to help with a color consult, check out my design services page and if none of these options are what you are looking for just email me.

Custom Paint Projects

August 5, 2013 Leave a Comment

I do get lots of questions regarding if we/I do custom paint projects and the answer is YES.  I do them all the time.  We are getting to the point where we are scheduling the drop off and delivery at the warehouse twice a month only.  A few common questions:

1. How long does it take to get a project done?

Items are dropped off Monday and ready for pickup Friday. Drop off dates are only 2 times a month and arranged by my shop manager Laura, who can be reached at shop@stylishpatina.com

2. Do you pick up and drop off furniture?

We used to but just don’t have the man power anymore.  We are happy to give you contact information for a local mover to help you.

3. Can you help me pick out my colors?

Yes, either I can help you or any of the girls at the shop are fabulous as well.

4. How much is it?

This depends on multiple factors but I have an estimate sheet on the website here and we ask you send up images of the items with measurements to give you a firm estimate.  It also depends on how many colors you want as well as if you want me to used things like gilding wax, etc.

5. How do I go about contacting you and getting a project lined up?

Email Laura my shop manager at shop@stylishpatina.com, include images of the items and measurements as well as an idea of what you would like done and we will get back with you in a few days.

Charleston, SC Interior Design

May 14, 2013 4 Comments

While in Charleston I thought I’d poke around and see what the interior designers were doing in this neck of woods!  I found Angie Hranowsky and just love her work.  Her profile tells us she is named one of the “20 Designers To Watch” by Traditional Home, included in Southern Living’s “Top Five Tastemakers,” and featured in Domino, House Beautiful, Metropolitan Home, and Coastal Living, Angie has garnered praise from the industry’s most prestigious publications.

You can see her work on her website and check out her portfolio.  I have included just a few images of her work I found online.  I love her use of color and texture in her rooms.

Repurposed Lockers

May 8, 2013 2 Comments

Repurpose Wed is all about vintage lockers this week!  I am on the hunt for a set for our newly renovated basement for interesting storage.  I’m going to paint them bright white, can’t wait!

I’ve seen lockers used as dressers to hold clothes, they are great in playrooms, perfect for mudrooms and so much more!  Enjoy these inspirational images.  See more on Pinterest.

Colorful Monday – Country Grey

January 14, 2013 1 Comment

When my customers ask me about neutrals I lean towards the nontraditional ones in the Chalk Paint™ line.  I prefer Country Grey and Old Ochre to Old White and Cream.  My favorite color combo is Aubusson Blue & Country Grey.

Today I am sharing a bit of informations straight from the source Annie Sloan!  You can find the type of detailed information below about each color on her website.  She also writes a blog solely on color you must visit!

Source – The below content and images are from Annie’s web page.

Colorful Monday – Patina

September 17, 2012 5 Comments

I love the color of natural patina and am always looking for a color combo that gives me that type of feel.  Today’s post is about an evolution of a buffet and an experimentation in color with Chalk Paint™ by Annie Sloan.

I bought this beat up buffet and had it in the SP Barn the other day as I was setting for our month sale in September.  I was thinking I would paint in Lamp Black by General Finishes and make it very chippy and antiqued.  Then I started looking around in the barn as I was setting for the sale and had a desire to give it a little more funk.  I started digging through my chalk paint colors to see what I had with me.  The night before I had been playing with the color florence on a mirror.   When my mom {aka COO} saw it she commented on how much she liked the color so I said what the heck lets have a little fun.

I pulled out my florence and graphite chalk paint and started playing around with the color mixture against the black top I had already done on the buffet.  I was really loving it….no it won’t be for everyone but the person that does take this Anthropologie inspired buffet home will love it.

I loved this color so much I decided to paint the front door of the barn my personal color mix of “Patina” {Chalk Paint™ Florence & Graphite}.  Hope to see you at the SP Barn this weekend {sept 21-23, 10-5pm each day!} get directions here.  Happy painting!

Before & After

August 30, 2012 1 Comment

I love showing before and after pics!  It’s so amazing what a little paint and time can do to transform something outdated and boring into something beautiful and functional.  I think one of my favorite mantras when people ask “what do you do?” I like to say I enjoy repurposing vintage {or otherwise} finds for modern living.  It doesn’t matter if that vintage find is something super cool or just your grandmothers hand me down dresser {or even an ikea table from 3 years ago…}.

So todays story starts with me stalking this book case for a couple weeks at a local thrift store, which by the way is now over priced and heavily populated by folks like you and I:-).  I used to be able to get deals there all the time but with the Chalk Paint™ craze I don’t get many deals and usually the stuff is gone before I drive by!

Anyhow…no one was snatching up this baby up probably for the same reasons I wasn’t ..it was expensive, big and do people really buy book cases anymore??? Well I finally gave into it basically because i though it would make a great staging unit at the shop in Falls Church.  So here she is……I loved her lines and saw what she could be given a little SP {Stylish Patina} love…

I decided to paint the inside white and then use Paris Grey {Chalk Paint™} on the exterior.  I just loved the final transformation.  She SOLD the weekend I put her in the shop….so I guess people do buy book cases.

Now it’s your turn!  What are you going to repurpose & refresh?

SEPTEMBER 22nd Chalk Paint™ Basics Class register online!  Seats are filling up quick.
